Hello!

I'm about to finish my staircase soon and will then attach my oak handrail. I'll be screwing from underneath...

I don't want the screw heads to be visible, so I was considering brass screws.

I've read that the screw must be stainless because it contains some acid and the screw rusts.

How should I think here? Does brass work or?

With dry wood indoors, you are unlikely to have any issues with tannic acid eating up the screws. People have been nailing and screwing oak thresholds without problems for ages, long before stainless steel existed.

Brass becomes cannon. The screw will oxidize on the surface and acquire a darker tone so the head is less visible.

Thank you so much for all the answers :)
