Hello

In our 70s trusses, the top chords/upper arms are spliced at the connection to the tie beam, and splice wood has been added on both sides.

The splice wood is 45x165, about 125 cm long (see image). The top chord is 45x185. Roof with concrete tiles, roof pitch 38 degrees. House in Västra Götaland.

My question: is it okay to replace these wood splices with nailing plates attached with ring shank nails? (To make room for standard 120 roof windows in the sections)

For example, plate 2x160x400, 5mm hole with 4x35 ring shank nails

Can/should/must you overlap several plates to get a larger area? For example, 3 in a row lengthwise and 2 on top, centered over the splice of course. Or can this create moments that, for example, bend the plates?
