Hello. I am a new homeowner and have a question about the ceiling. We have started removing the stretch ceiling in the living room today. Above the stretch ceiling, there are chipboards.

Currently, there is a sparse panel nailed and glued over all the joints on the chipboards with a moisture barrier over it. I'm attaching a picture below.

Is it okay to remove the existing "sparse panel" and install plasterboard directly against the chipboard with a new moisture barrier over all the joints?

Regards

  • Close-up of a ceiling with particleboard and a wooden batten with moisture barrier tape over the seams. Evidence of dismantling work is visible.
  • Ceiling with fiberboard panels and sparse battens partially removed, showing panel edges, in a living room under renovation.
Is it straight/flat enough?

It looks level, will check it today and get back to you. Is it enough to put a vapor barrier over the joints as shown in the picture?
