buying house= uninsulated concrete slab with 14% moisture in interior wall
I can now tell you how it went, I called the real estate agent and informed him of my discovery. He actually sounded concerned, and honestly said that it's not good, that it could be a big job. He sounded genuinely worried, I guess he has no obligation to pass on anything that I discovered (if it’s anything at all). I still placed a bid, expecting that a huge job looms on the horizon. There was only one other bidder, and they went 400,000 SEK over me. I don't want to point fingers too much, but it's a guy who owns a larger company buying the house for his mother. Apparently, they were at the viewing with an architect and probably plan to tear everything out. I was probably never really in the game since their financial strength is considerably greater than mine. Curious as I am, I will keep an eye on the house as I'm often in the area; if they start a big renovation, I’ll ask them what they found when/if they tore everything up.F FellanD said:Sounds like you're willing to take a risk for the house. One shouldn't underestimate gut feelings.
Without knowing anything about the heating loops, I wouldn't place much hope on them. I don't know what kind of loops they are; but heat in cold concrete floors is said to be able to cause moisture migration in the "wrong" direction. That's why descriptions of underfloor heating recommend a lot of insulation underneath and a vapor barrier in the "right" place.
I'm not an expert, just urging you to think carefully so you don't end up disappointed.
