there is crap timber. do you know anyone who buys at, for example, byggmax because it's nice timber?
i can stand and choose timbers for an hour and then find two or three that are good enough for a wall.

Does Byggmax choose to buy in low-quality products, second-grade or similar? Don't they have roughly the same suppliers as many other large building material retailers? I've been around the lumberyards in town and Byggmax hasn't been better or worse overall, except certain dimensions have been better elsewhere in terms of length and quality, while Byggmax has sometimes been really good.

One building retailer has higher quality which they sell more expensively where the studs are really good, so you don’t have to check so carefully, but otherwise, my experience is that it is just as bad/good at Byggmax as at other places. The difference is that it's not a problem to get down to Byggmax prices or below if you just ask for a quote from the local lumberyard first, but it's probably hard to haggle with Byggmax.

Hello TS

If you think you can negotiate better prices and enjoy coordinating/project managing, then I absolutely think you should consider purchasing the materials yourself. If you can't or don't want to manage that part, then focus on the rest.

If you've built before, you know what's coming. If not, there are several people here on the forum who might be able to explain what to expect :)

Good luck and don't forget to start a thread about the house project with lots of pictures. :D

Can't say anything about all their facilities but at some it is the same SCA timber that goes to the "big" hardware stores anyway

If you can come up with 2 pieces per hour, your house will take a long time to build.
talk about exaggeration.

You should probably know what you're doing if you're going to procure the material yourself.
If the right material isn't on site, the carpenter will send a text saying they're playing cards until you come with the right stuff.
They will blame any possible errors on the material.
