Hi
I am renovating an old half-timbered house and have come to the conclusion that I need to take down the old clay bricks to remove the sheet material attached to the inside of the timber frame.
I am planning to rebuild with the old clay bricks again.
My question is, is it possible to use clay mortar when it's still freezing at night?
Grateful for input.

I don't quite understand, you don't masonry with clay on the roof since clay is water-soluble?
Do you have pictures?

It's not the roof I'm going to work on, but rather the sections in the facade. Afterwards, I might plaster them with lime or put back the paneling that was there before.

I don't think that TS is talking about clay roof tiles on the roof, but about clay bricks in the wall.

Exactly, that's correct.

No, probably the short answer unfortunately.

The clay freezes, that's probably the biggest problem. Apart from that (e.g., if you use warm water?), it should work, as there is no curing process that gets ruined. But it sounds very troublesome.
