Difficult-to-place thread, didn't know where to put it, just move it if it's in the wrong place.
Now to the question.
I am going to build a porch for the house.
I have the construction, etc., figured out. But there are a few things that are bothering me.
How big does the top "platform" need to be so that you don't feel cramped against the door?
Should the roof be just as large to look good and harmonize?
There will be 7 steps up to the platform and it will look like something below

+ a roof then. Preferably hipped with standing seam metal.

Hello,
The size of the platform depends on how large the door is, so it's difficult to provide specific measurements. My idea is that the platform should be large enough that you can walk around the door and, for example, fasten it to the wall with a hasp/hook without having to step off the platform. Let's say the door is 90cm. Then the platform needs to be around 120x120cm.
I would choose a roof of the same size or larger. A smaller roof might look a bit odd, and its functionality would be worse. It only takes a little wind when it rains for the roof to be of no use.
Best regards,
Stefan

Thank you for a sensible answer!
Do you think it will look silly if the roof is bigger than the upper platform but not as big as the entire staircase?
I was thinking maybe 1m deep and 1.5 wide or similar, the platform that is. Then maybe extend the roof further out. So that the pillar stands on the 3rd step from the top.
A lot to plan
