I want to build a drywall that doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling and doesn't go across the entire room, in other words, the wall only has 2 anchoring points/surfaces, the floor and a wall to the right.
My question is, is it possible? How do I ensure the wall is stable? Especially the side that isn't against the room wall and ends in the middle of the room. Do I need a stud that goes all the way up to the ceiling there? Preferably not, but if necessary...
I have done something similar to divide between the hallway and the recreation room. I have no problems with stability. On the contrary, it feels solid and stable.
I used 45x70 studs, one side screwed into the adjoining wall and fastened to the floor, and mounted OSB boards on both sides and a layer of gypsum on top.
Unfortunately, I can't find any pictures from the construction of it, it was so many years ago, so the only thing I can contribute with are pictures of how it looks today.
But it's not a difficult construction, just a regular framework but only at half height. OSB board on both sides and gypsum on that.
