Hello,

I am planning to build storage for the garage. It will be shelves on wheels that can be pulled out. See image for inspiration.
It should accommodate large paint cans/buckets, tools, etc.

I was thinking of using construction plywood, what thickness do you think I need?
Or is it better to build with other material?

  • Wooden garage storage shelves on wheels, designed to hold paint cans and tools, made from plywood with black handles and capable of being pulled out.
If you want to stick to the same material and thickness throughout, then the span of each shelf is the weakest point.
Do you have any intended measurements?

I would build in 12mm and double up on the sides, so you have spacing between all shelves that bear the weight and then a full-covering one outside that braces it.

Thanks for the tip!
As it stands now, the plan is 186cm high and 60cm deep out from the wall. Then the cabinets and their shelves will have different depths depending on what they are supposed to contain, but about 42cm deep shelves inside the cabinet.

With a 60cm span, you'll be fine with 12mm, I would say. But I would definitely go "double" on the gables. Screwing plywood only into the end grain becomes too weak.
