Building an additional floor. Will the studs hold?

I assume that you will cut away parts of the existing trusses when you open up the upper floor?
You might want to consider if you need to reinforce that roof and if so, use it for the new ones as well...
...in Gabbe1's case, it's on the outdoor loft and therefore easier to solve...

Well, you need to have an opening so you don't have to use a ladder and climb in through the window.
Maybe a roof truss that needs to be shifted over, but it depends a bit on how big of a room we want.

Will the dormer be built in?
What are you going to have in that part?
Standard or ridge beam ceiling?

I think you can do something similar to Gabbe1, i.e., prefabricated roof trusses out there and then build on-site what needs to connect to the existing roof.
A standard interior ceiling makes it easier both to build and construct.

The idea was that only the larger left part would get an additional floor. The dormer will remain but may be slightly larger.
The right part under the dormer and to the right will have a slightly sloping roof.
I will try to make a drawing and upload how it was intended to look.

I have received a quote for the rafters, and it wasn't very expensive, so there is no reason to nail them myself.

Wondering a bit if we should skip the extension since we actually don't need the space. The roof needs to be renovated anyway, and we don't want a flat roof again, but perhaps something like this, possibly with beveled sides (hipped roof).
