I am currently replacing the decking on my parents' patio. They currently have a staircase that is uneven – the steps are higher on one side and lower on the other, since the plot slopes. I'm considering if there is a more aesthetically pleasing way to solve this. At one end, it's about 28 cm down to the ground, and at the other end about 38 cm (quickly measured, not exact to the centimeter). Leveling the entire plot is an option, but it involves significantly more work. Is there a smart way to build the staircase so it is even and looks good despite the difference in levels? Man working on replacing deck boards of a patio with uneven step heights; one side measures 28cm and the other 38cm above ground.

Place the lowest step just above the grass on one side and 10 cm higher on the other side. It works perfectly.

So the first step will be a low step a few cm above grass level?

On one side, yes.
