Building a Small Loft with Glulam Beam, dimension???
Hello all skilled builders,
I am planning a play/sleep loft for my daughter. It will be about 2 meters wide and 1.2 meters deep. The loft will be built in an "alcove," so it stretches from wall to wall, so to speak. I don't want any "posts" on the floor. There isn't a very high ceiling height in the room, so I want the "thinnest possible loft."
Please, is there anyone who can advise on the sizing of laminated beams for this small project? I understand that 90x90 is sufficient for a two-meter span, but is it possible to have even lower (thinner) laminated beams/posts?
At Bauhaus, for example, there are a variety of dimensions for pine laminated posts, such as 45x45, 58x38, 58x58, and 80x80. Could any of these work?
A couple of other, less important questions are how closely the posts should be placed (3 posts at 1.2 meters deep? = 40 cm between posts) and what material is good/thin for the floor?
VERY grateful for answers from someone who knows more than I do. I've tried googling but don't understand the sizing tables I find. They seem to be mostly for big house constructions
or maybe I'm just a bit slow

Also interested in a similar project. Is there anyone who can and knows about this?jinitera said:Hello all skilled builders, I am planning a play/sleep loft for my daughter. At Bauhaus, for example, there are many different dimensions on pine laminate posts, such as 45x45, 58x38, 58x58, and 80x80. Can any of these work?
