Planning to rebuild our veranda and enclose it with glass. It will also be elevated to align with the rest of the house. Should I concrete these posts or can I use the ones that you drive into the ground?

Planning to also build an open veranda at the front without a roof (= no building permit, right?) and wondering the same thing here about what's best. Concrete or posts?

Sörmland, what do you think the depth of the frost is there?
My strange introduction is based on the fact that ice tends to move things (soil).
So the deeper you set any solid material, the more securely it stays above ground. :D

Good question. It depends on the winter, but maybe 30-60cm. The ones I recently drove down for the fence were about 40-50cm, and I had a tough time getting them down, so I dug a bit, and first there was 20cm of topsoil, then it became clay, stone, and gravel. Like concrete!
I don't really think it will move sideways, but what about the weight?

At the cabin, I poured concrete for a shed of 8m2, and then I probably dug at least 50cm and added reinforcement in them afterward.

But driving down galvanized posts is definitely easier than pouring concrete.
