I was planning to build a dormer with a gable roof, maybe 3-4 meters wide. I've googled a bit about what this would cost if you do everything yourself. I've only seen information pointing to 50-100,000. How can that be possible? I built an entire shed for 18,000, albeit with used windows.
What is it about the dormer that makes it so expensive? All you need is a load of timber, insulation, roof tiles, and one or two windows, right?

The most expensive aspect of any construction is the labor!
As always, the cost depends on how you make the procurement.
A contractor who does everything at a fixed price must account for the unexpected.
If you take on the role of builder and hire people yourself, you bear the risk, but it can often be cheaper overall.

But I'm not going to hire anyone. I'm going to do everything myself. If I managed to build a shed of 26 sqm with a height of 3.20 meters to the ridge, made my own trusses, poured the foundation, and transported all the timber home for that project, I should be able to build a dormer myself too, right? It feels like it's about 30% as hard as building the shed and I find it very hard to believe it could cost more than 10,000.

one sått ends up around 7-10K. super expensive ugh...
but the wood itself is not a big sum.
then the interior costs as well...
floor and moldings, trims, etc...
it adds up quickly...
you have the knowledge, you say...
don't forget to build scaffolding below...

Built 2 dormers myself in 2009 at a cost of 14,000:-, windows not included.
Built the trusses myself, but it takes time and is not easy. The dormers are about 4 m wide.
Note: The price does not include insulation and interior cladding, so a few thousand more will be added.

Zingo: How did it go? I'm having similar thoughts and want to build it myself. What did it cost? How did you determine the load transfer and dimensions?
Hope it went well for Zingo. You can't get anywhere for 10tkr now. Just building permit + construction coordinator lands around 15-20tkr before you even start. Possible architect excluded. I built mine in 2009 before the new building permit fee and construction coordinator requirements were introduced. It landed around 40tkr. I reused the bricks to some extent. Half of it was probably 3 triple-glazed windows though.
and especially not now after July 1, 2014. The municipalities may require a control manager, but they must have arguments for it, for example, that it is a culturally and historically valuable house, that the dormer is unusually complex, or something similar. Planning and Building Ordinance Chapter 7 Section 5.

If I have interpreted the texts correctly, part of the purpose is to limit the size and thereby indirectly the effects on appearance. Why it should now be more attractive/more suitable with a smaller cup
