I have a vacation home standing on an old stone foundation (stacked stone blocks with plaster on the outside, standing on a sloping rock). I want to get more living space and had thoughts of extending the house, and it just occurred to me that maybe I should use the space under the house as living space. What do you think about that, and how should the construction be done? At the back of the house, the foundation is quite low since the rock is almost at ground level, but at the front, the foremost 3 meters, the foundation is high enough that it could provide sufficient ceiling height.
The foundation is about 4dm thick on average, it varies a bit since, as mentioned, they are regular cut stone blocks. I assume you might need to build something inside it to get reasonable insulation? Iselecablocks and then fill the air gap between the Iselecablocks and the stone wall with something?
The question is also how the floor should be constructed. It's bare rock and it slopes. It's probably inevitable that water will seep in, so it should probably be a construction that allows water to pass underneath.
