Planning to build a pergola with a wooden deck. Considering whether the pergola should be freestanding or attached to the existing house facade.

I had the pergola/(in my case a) frame structure not attached to the facade but with a couple of cm gap. I was mostly worried about cracking in the plastered facade. It has worked excellently these years. The additional cost was just a number of extra posts with cast foundations. Since my construction required heavy load for sailcloth roof near the coast, this was sensible. But maybe over-kill for TS?
