if you are building an additional floor (3x3), should you reinforce the joists on the first floor or is it enough with a supporting beam on the second floor? Currently working on the first floor (3x3). 170 studs and a concrete slab.
Should you embed a supporting beam on the side where the roof trusses will rest, on the first floor that is?
Is 145 enough as a supporting beam? (Double above the window)

Under the following conditions, normal bedrooms, floor joists at c/c 600 mm and a total span of 3 m, you need to have 45x170 C 24. Lower dimensions or quality will be unstable.
The loads from the second floor and the roof rest on the outer walls. If the stud frame consists of 45x170, they can handle quite a lot. Headers may be needed over windows and doors. I would ideally like to know a bit more before suggesting dimensions for these.
