I have a house that is one story, is it possible to build an additional floor on top of it?
or is it a project that would cost a fortune?

Even with a lot of "Do it yourself," it seems it could be around a million in total with furnishings! It can certainly be done cheaper, but that probably requires a significant commitment from the owner. Then, of course, size matters.

There are lots of threads about this, so do a search! The easiest way might be to use Google's advanced search and enter www.byggahus.se as the domain.

Search for "Taklyft"

The first point is to determine if the current structure can support an additional floor. This probably requires a structural engineer.

Once you know this, you can start calculating costs. Saying anything general is basically impossible.

A room with painted single-layer drywall on the walls and chipboard flooring with cheap laminate flooring cannot be compared to OSB+drywall in the wall plus carpet.
It's equally off to compare Masonite plus cheap roof sheet with tongue and groove sheathing+felt+better roof tiles.

nah, the idea is already abandoned... it would be way too cumbersome!
thanks anyway for all the answers! :D
