I am fond of Designtak's metal entrance canopies, but as someone thrifty, I'm wondering if I can get away much cheaper. Also, I want the canopy to extend further than theirs allows, in our case about 1.3m, and be supported by pillars. We don't have much building height between the top of the door and the panel (16 cm), so it needs to be a neat roof. But the slope would be about 7° if I calculated correctly.

A black metal entrance canopy with a minimal slope extends over a doorway on a light-colored building.
Designtak

Metal porch frame with railing on brick wall building, above concrete steps, suitable for entrance design with support pillars.
I'm wondering if you could make a frame like in the picture, but in wood, with boards or plywood (maybe add insulation for sound?) and then have a sheet metal worker cover the frame. Then fix a similar steel railing as in the picture.

My question is really whether sheet metal workers do such work?

Another option is shingle on roof boarding instead of metal, which is cheaper but doesn't have the same runoff.

I don't plan to spend 15-20 thousand on an entrance canopy. For that price, I want to include railing, pillars, and roof. I'm not very aware of the cost, though.

Penny-wise and complicated or a good idea?
