Hi! I'm planning to convert a wall into a slat wall. I want space behind the slats to add some sound insulation. But which insulation should I use? I don't want to use any potentially hazardous materials. Size-wise, preferably like regular thick insulation as it will cover the entire wall.

Hi, check out acoustic panels so you can get everything in one. Example: [link]
Hi! Yes, well aware of that solution but I want to create my own solution with thicker insulation.

You can throw in a ground board with a fabric on the outside. However, it's not so sound insulating, more absorbing. It becomes a Helmholtz resonator and the frequency depends on the distance between slats and the volume behind. A bit like blowing air into a bottle but the other way around.

Smart solution, but I'll probably rather just throw in some insulation, whatever kind of insulation it might be.

Are you going to put slats on a wall or replace a wall with a slat wall? There is a certain difference in how it will function.
What are you thinking of using for it?
Insulation like stone wool or glass wool? Works with wood wool too.

Existing wall that will be built upon. I have read that glass wool and stone wool aren't very good for health. Otherwise, I would have used one of them directly.

Use ceiling tiles, in fact made of gullfiber but with a surface layer.
As long as they just sit there behind protection, they are completely harmless.

The question is if I can use stone or glass behind landscape fabric and it's okay?

Use some fabric instead is my advice.

Leaning towards installing wood fiber insulation and then covering it with black landscape fabric, followed by slatting on that.

Did it happen? Do you have any pictures and more info on how you built it? Did it have any soundproofing effect?
