Budget-renovate old staircase.

Hello.

As you can see in the pictures, it's time to refresh the staircase as cheaply as possible... I've done one coat on the stringers.

My thought is to buy some carpet and remove the old carpet to use it as a template. Then glue on the new one.

Or how would you experts have done it?

I glued carpet of "good" quality. Avoids stair nosing and has a low risk of slipping.
