I am renovating an old bathroom in a house from around 1900, and the bathroom is likely from around 1950.
I have found 2 wall types and am considering how to create a base to later tile with modern materials.
I hope to get tips from someone here in the forum who has experience with working on old houses.
In the picture you can see 2 different wall types.
To the left:
The wooden wall was rendered with reed mats, and the plan is to remove all the plaster and install wet room plasterboard. It seems most logical to lay the boards horizontally to have a horizontal seam on this base. Any opinions?
To the right:
The masonry wall is softer stone than fired brick; could it be ashlar?? (The house is located in northwestern Skåne).
I am considering filling in the cavities and plastering the wall smooth. What products/systems do you recommend?
Or...
Should I aim to even out the worst and "glue" some board on the wall?
