Hello,

We have a fireplace insert that I plan to remove and brick up the opening afterwards.

We also have an insert in the basement that will remain.

Is there anything specific I need to consider when bricking up the opening?

See image, I have already started the demolition.

No, buy c bruk and seal it again.
If you have whole bricks from the demolition, you can use them.

Dampen the brick before you start laying. Spray the stones that are in the chimney. The ones you lay can be moistened in a bucket. If they are dry, they will draw moisture from the mortar.

Thank you for the quick response 😊 Do I need to remove the actual pipe that goes up into the chimney?

No, but it's not a bad idea to seal the chimney top, so it doesn't rain in, and otherwise it's an open residence for new tenants, crows/jackdaws. They are quick to move in.
