Hi!

I need to brick up a doorway, but I'm unsure which type of masonry blocks and mortar I should use.

There are some kind of hollow blocks filled with sawdust as insulation. They measure about 49x25cm. The wall is about 25cm thick. I think it's the type of block I found lying outside. I'm attaching some pictures.

What is this type called? Can I just buy Leca blocks and use that? It's a heated garage.

Anyone have any tips on the procedure?

  • Concrete wall made of rectangular blocks with visible mortar lines, possibly used for a garage. Blocks appear to be standard size and color.
  • A concrete block with a hollow center filled with sawdust, lying on gravel and surrounded by green leaves and plants.

It looks to be concrete hollow blocks, which are best laid with mortar B or alternatively A mortar. When you are closing the gap, you need to insert reinforcement that you drill into the sides of the existing wall in the first course and in every other subsequent course as you build upwards.

That's probably correct. Is it possible to use lightweight concrete blocks + reinforcement, or do I need to get concrete block?

It will probably work, do you have any pictures from the outside?

  • Old wooden door with green paint and an X-brace, set in a white brick wall, possibly for renovation or replacement with concrete blocks.

Poor image but this is how it looks. I was wondering if it is possible to use these types of blocks: [link]
Yes, you can use Leca, but it's good if you plaster the exterior...

Thanks, I'll go with that. What type of plaster is suitable?

You can buy mur och putsbruk B, which can be used for both masonry and plastering.

If you want to do it by the book, the wall should be primed with grundningsbruk A, which is applied before the plaster.

Of course, you can choose Finja or Weber if your local dealer carries them instead since they have similar products.
