Hello.

I have a brick wall with a door opening that I plan to brick up. I have bricks from when I demolished the adjacent wall that I thought I would use. Now the question is, how do I do this best? Just mix mortar and slap it on?

All tips are gratefully received!

Brick wall with a partially filled door opening, showing rough mortar and bricks ready for sealing. Open doorway with visible wear on the frame, looking into a kitchen with wooden cabinets and a tiled backsplash, indicating renovation needs.

You just need to tear down the frame and check that there's something stable to build on under the threshold. Then you take it row by row. A plumb line/level helps a lot because it easily becomes uneven. Some straight battens can also be helpful.

The difficult part then is the plastering to get a nice wall. Or difficult and difficult, it's messy.

Thanks for the answer!

Now it's bricked and plastered with rendering mortar B.

How long does this need to dry before I can apply filler over it? I have about 2-8mm of mortar approximately.
