I have demolished a fireplace that added nothing. Now I have a hole in the chimney that I plan to brick up. See the picture.
I was wondering if my work process is correct:
remove any stones that might be loose,
moisten everything
lay bricks with mortar B
then finish with plastering and painting.
Am I thinking correctly or should something be different? The mortar currently there is a mixture of lime and cement, and I don't plan to remove it.
Insert a vent so that you have the option for some draft through the channel. Is this the only channel in the chimney? If so, you probably want some air in it so that the chimney is in good condition above the roof.
Sorry, I'm not going to brick up the whole thing.. I'll save a hole where a new fireplace is going to be installed.. so the whole hole will not be bricked up.
