I'm not really sure what type of wall it is. But it feels like plasterboard, and there is no gap or similar in the wall; it's solid through the whole wall.

What type of fastener is best suited? I've read a bit, and Molly bolts seem to be popular, but they seem to make very ugly holes - which is negative since I live in a rental.
The instructions that came with it state that they should be "Hex Bolt M8" and nylon plug, but unfortunately, I received the wrong fasteners. It seems to be some sort of metal expander (Molly?).

Are there any tips on fasteners?

Molly is the only thing that works in plasterboard, but the best is if you can find one or more studs to fasten into.
 
Somewhat of a beginner's question, but how do you find the studs in the wall?

It usually works to tap on the wall, you can hear the difference.

Tapping and listening is one way, a stud finder is another, and a strong magnet to find drywall screws is a third.

You write that there doesn't seem to be a cavity. That suggests it's not a typical stud wall. Plank wall, masonry, or maybe even concrete behind?

I have drilled about 6-7 cm, and it's completely filled. The outermost centimeters are a very white and smooth material, while the rest is porous but fairly rough. Feels like tiny tiny tiny stones mixed with something else. The color is towards the dark gray side.

And the wall in question is above a door and feels a bit more stable than the wall in other parts of the room.
 
Well, it's not plaster in the wall. It could be slag or ytong.
 
What will be the consequence of that? Is it possible to attach something that can withstand that weight?

If you use 12mm plugs and an 8mm screw, it should be solid. Metal expanders do not work in lightweight concrete!

Are you really reading it correctly? "Hex bolt M8" is an 8 mm machine screw not used for wall mounting.
 
M8 bolts were also included with our TV... The problem with the plugs you got from Beijer now is that it has to be "soft" lightweight concrete all the way. If the wall is plastered, the plugs won't go in, and you'll have large holes and possibly cracks in the plaster as a result! Alternatively, you must first remove the plaster (the outer slightly harder layer) so the plug goes into the lightweight concrete only. The plugs I referred to work without removing plaster...
