Brace an outer corner of the house

Is it possible to open up the corner of a house and use beams? This is to create a corridor from a corner out to an extension.

Is it a significant additional cost compared to using beams in another way?

Was quite common in the past when many stores had entrances right at the corner. Then it's always easier to do it when building new, but nothing is impossible.
