Ahaaa...that explains why I don't understand anything.
I must write to De Walt immediately and complain. Selling me this unique piece that doesn't work like the others and tricking me into embarrassing myself here! (Ahem, cough, shuffles foot, ashamed.)

I was thinking about how I managed so well anyway when I was sawing my oak countertops...and realized that...yes, I actually sawed from the backside! With tape on both sides. How could I remember so incorrectly...I can only blame it on being almost a year ago...

True, that's a special case. Just as you say, they can be a bit tricky to saw with. I think the best in that category is Makita's BR13, with only the top 4 teeth bent downwards. Despite this, jigsawing is clearly best done from the underside...
