Thinking about building a wooden lounge chair according to the picture.

How do you go about bending wood? Do you bend thin planks and glue them together, or is it also possible to bend thicker timber on edge? Wooden lounge chairs with curved design on a wet wooden deck by the sea, under a cloudy sky.

It must be laminate that needs to be shaped like that. But an alternative might be to cut out the ribs from thick birch plywood, that should work.

Show wood types bend more easily (willow). Others become very difficult (beech, oak). It was a long time ago that I tried. Bending as much as you want might be impossible in an amateur workshop. But it can be done in another way. Buy thick plywood. Cut out and glue double or triple sheets. It becomes much easier and more stable. If you stain it and treat it, it will be hard to see that it's plywood.

Otherwise, you can find some videos on how to bend wood on YouTube.
