I have split 3 three-meter logs in half, which will be assembled into 3 benches. The idea is for one side to become the seating area and the other to become the backrest. I plan to attach sturdy hinges to the benches so I can fold down the backrest.
Anyway, my question to you is, how do I keep the backrest in a comfortable position? Do you have any more tips? Does the idea seem silly?
Thanks/

In fact, I have seen something like that but it was probably 20 years ago. Back then, there were strong forged hinges and two chains at the edges between the seat and the backrest that held the backrest up.
Nice! A simple and good solution overall. But the hinges worry me a bit; having a blacksmith make some hinges sounds like an expensive story.
I checked Beijer, would 3 of these for each bench suffice?

I would have gone for something like
Jula Mail Order Hinges
but preferably a bit larger
Keep in mind that it gets very back-heavy so you'll probably need "skids" under the back legs or very angled back legs.
