I have taken down a barracuda ceiling in the house and now I need to fix the ceiling again after the deathtrap has been eliminated. I've read up on it but I'm a bit nervous, so I thought I'd double-check:
Is it as simple as nailing up battens across the planks in the ceiling (with gaps to accommodate the electrical conduits) and then attaching something like Huntonit panels to the battens?
Or am I missing something?

It's that simple!
If the panel that's there has suitable distances considering upcoming boards and you can run the electricity behind it (can be threaded between the panel and insulation), then you don't need to add another layer of battens, which can save some time, money, and ceiling height.

Hiding the power cable and laying the ceiling across the sparse paneling (if the center-to-center measurement matches, you might be able to lay it in whichever direction you prefer) seems like the obviously best/easiest solution if there is no other reason to lower the ceiling.

To stay within the law, laying a conduit requires certification, so the short answer is yes. Whether it's a reasonable requirement or not, you can spend the rest of the week reading up on countless threads to decide how you want to proceed. But if you decide to do it on your own, make sure everything is done correctly.F fannmo said:
Haha, yes considering my starting point maybe it's best to be law-abiding then. I removed the Barracuda roof to avoid fire and death, so maybe it's silly to build in the same risk on my own afterwards
Thanks again for your time, then I can start with the project!
