We have just drained and insulated with 100mm Optidrain. This summer we'll build a deck and restore the front. I'm considering attachment of the support beam against the basement wall and sealing the basement window.
The old deck was on pillars closest to the house. I don't think that works now due to the insulation and recent excavation. I also don't want to attach it to the wooden facade since it will be replaced in a few years. The basement wall (25cm hollow stone concrete) remains as an alternative for the support beam.
- However, the basement wall should be insulated and covered with skirting board. How do we handle it under the deck and with the support beam?
My thought: frame up + insulate 50/70mm +
cover with something like roofing felt? (it will be under the deck, so appearance doesn't matter... boards are expensive) and attach the support beam on top of that with brutally long wall plugs?
Or support beam first and then insulate around and ignore insulation there?
- The support beam will run directly over a basement window that is not needed anyway. Do I need to completely brick up the basement window directly or just remove the window, fill it with something like insulation and place a wooden board on the inside? And then when/if the basement is redone, brick it from the inside?
