Beadboard Interior Paneling - TIPS? Knot-free, primed? Suppliers?
Going to install beadboard on the ceiling in the house we're building. Unfinished with knots is out since I don't have time for all the steps (shellac, painting the groove, etc.), so I want knot-free or pre-primed/painted white.
I've looked at Eskebo, Kindsbygdens, Horndal, as well as the big names like Molven, Baseco.
(Details in my particular case.

- Do you have any other hidden gems to recommend that can deliver knot-free or white at good prices?
- Experience with factory-painted panels? Any supplier that has had less than satisfactory painting? What has worked well for you?

I have personally done a large ceiling with untreated tongue and groove paneling. Sealed the knots twice with water-based knot sealer. Primed after installation and used topcoat twice. Has now lasted for 15 years without problems. I don't remember that sealing the knots was a hassle. Dabbing with a round brush goes faster than you think. I wouldn't dare buy pre-painted if it exists. I don't want to redo the job 5 years later. Does knot-free even exist?Vivktor r said:

In that case, it would be some type of pre-painted wall/ceiling panel in mdf with the appearance of tongue and groove paneling.
"Knot-free pine, also called "Klar Tall" or "knot-free pine," is pine that is sawn and processed to be almost entirely free of knots. It is usually used in interiors, furniture, panels, and joinery where a smooth, aesthetically pleasing wood is desired." For example, to avoid knots showing through the topcoat. - Many have started using it - even the big manufacturers. It has nothing to do with MDF.H Håbbe01 said:I have made a large ceiling with untreated beadboard. I applied knot sealer twice with water-based knot sealer. If so, it's some type of pre-primed wall/ceiling panel in mdf that looks like beadboard.
I absolutely agree that it feels much better to do it yourself so you know it's done well. BUT - you did 5 individual steps on each plank? Wow
If you buy from good suppliers, it's well-dried wood so it doesn't shrink and painting the tongue would complicate the installation. Your price point seems hard to achieve since the m2 price for shorter pieces seems to land at 800 SEK. So finding pieces longer than 3m to avoid ugly joints can be a challenge.Vivktor r said:

GoodnessDidn't you paint the tongue before you put it up? Since wood moves, I always paint the tongue/groove/male before putting it up to avoid seeing the unpainted surface when a gap appears.
Unpainted beadboard is around 250 SEK per sqm including VAT. Painted/stained beadboard is around 350/400 SEK per sqm including VAT. A quick search finds Bygma with a knot-free painted option for 660 SEK per sqm including VAT.Vivktor r said:

Then it comes to the purely practical regardless of the option, an order from, for example, Norrlandsträ specified by length entails picking add-ons and length add-ons. Maybe you can get under 400 SEK per sqm with stained similar on 100 sqm, but it's tight.
