A supplementary question on the subject: If the basement is "sosodrained" is it really okay to plaster with gypsum plaster (natural gypsum) or should one use regular mortar? Gypsum is indeed easier and it can actually be sanded to make it smooth and nice.
 
gypsum breathes, so why not...

however, if your walls become damp sometimes, the gypsum will become soft compared to plaster (which is worthless)
