We are going to build a basement staircase outdoors and are considering which type of material is best and most durable for the wall around the external basement staircase, building it with Lecablock or casting it in concrete? If anyone knows, I would appreciate the information.

Hi,
A cast wall should probably be the most durable. But the easiest way is probably still to build it with Leca on a cast slab, that’s what I did a couple of years ago and it still seems to hold together. Arrange drainage on the outside and install some type of board/mat to avoid moisture penetration. I built with regular 19cm Leca, but finished the last course (visible part above ground) with 15cm for a slimmer appearance.

Use scale blocks, they are built up like Leca but are then filled with concrete. You avoid building forms and tearing them down.

Thank you for the information, I will buy 19 cm Leca and build a wall.
Regards Håkan:)
