I have a storage room located directly under the patio. An extension to the house and basement from 1979. Inside, there was a ceiling of chipboard-like/masonite boards that have become wavy. Now it started to smell quite bad in there, so I decided to tear it down.

Above, there are stone wool boards (see picture) placed directly against the concrete. I've now taken them down and tried to scrape off the remnants, but it wasn't easy.

But now the question is what should I do next? Continue scraping until it's concrete clean, remove the worst parts and see if it's possible to paint? Apply new concrete or some sort of plaster?
It doesn't need to be super nice, and I don't think it needs much insulation. We just use it as storage.

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

  • Storage room with a window, exposed stone wool insulation on the ceiling, and bare wooden shelves. The walls show signs of wear and tear.
  • A basement storage room with a damaged ceiling showing insulation panels and debris on the floor, with a wooden shelf and a partly open window.
  • Storage room with exposed concrete ceiling, wooden shelves, a window, and a detached door leaning against the wall.

The thought has crossed my mind. So far, everything has come off easily with a paint scraper, but now it's probably time for heavier machinery.

Everything is to sandblast, but it also makes quite a mess

Yes, it sounds messy.
