Baseboard and molding with uneven floor/ceiling
Hi,
It's easy to be wise after the event, but I wanted to get started with the renovation of a room and got the floor done today. I tried with a skirting board and discovered that the floor in that room is quite uneven, so the skirting gaps a bit here and there. What's the easiest way to fix this?
The same thing with the ceiling molding.

What kind of floor is it?
If it's a concrete floor, you can use leveling compound, it's not as difficult as it sounds. Wooden floor - maybe sand it - very difficult. Tile, - another type of floor, attach the trim and seal with something white, like latex (possibly construction silicone if you have it at home)

Temporarily put the baseboard in place. Then, trace along the floor, for example, by laying the pencil flat on the floor and dragging it along the baseboard. Alternatively, place a small piece of masonite or similar material and move the pencil along it (moving both the pencil and the masonite piece). This will give you a line on the baseboard that follows the floor's profile. Then, it's either a jigsaw or a plane, depending on how uneven the floor is.
About the crown molding: I installed crown moldings (a rather substantial cove molding) in a room with a fairly uneven ceiling and didn't find it too difficult to press the molding up so that it lay quite tight against it. They are usually not THAT stiff. In the worst places, I had to screw the molding, but still... Then latex caulk between the molding and the ceiling.
