Today we have a balcony with decking and a patio underneath, which makes it rain down. We are planning to create a sunroom under the balcony and are drawing up plans.

The roof will be longer than the balcony and my question is really about how to attach the front parts of the balcony with railing to the roof?

I sketched something quickly in pencil so you understand what I mean

Pencil sketch of a balcony design plan showing the structure with railing details and overhanging roof, placed on a red polka dot background.

The roof length is about 4 meters and the balcony is intended to be just over 180 cm from the wall - think a slightly wider yodeling balcony. (the view into the neighbor's wood shed is... well, not so fun so we've probably been on the balcony 2 times in 8 years - hence the downsizing)

I saw this picture: 1280x960_glasracke_aluminium_balkong_1-35558.jpg and even if we will have a slightly flatter slope and not as deep a balcony, the concept is the same. My idea has been to just screw the balcony flooring into the bearer against the façade and let the decking lock the front bearer, but I now realize that might not be the right way to go.

Suggestions?

Hello,

Have you built yet? We have a similar idea and it would be interesting to see.

Why does it need to be fastened with the front parts of the balcony?
We have a patio with a roof that goes all the way from the ceiling. Just think about the right slope.

  • White wooden balcony on a red house with an outdoor area underneath, featuring a roof extending from the main roof, with items scattered below.
  • Outdoor patio roof with white beams and corrugated panels, connected to a red wooden house. Fence and snowy decorations on door visible.
