I have a cottage with a bread oven in the basement. When we bought it, it had been vacant for a few years, and the old bachelor who lived there before didn't care much about the basement.
Partly, moisture has migrated through the cold chimney and out through the bread oven and then up into the ceiling and further up the basement stairs, which has led to damage to the parts of the ceiling that were exposed to moisture, as well as the stairs. (See another thread about the stairs: https://www.byggahus.se/forum/inredning/282039-fulfixa-utruttnad-kallartrapp.html)
If I look at the oven from the front, it seems like the sides of the oven are bulging out a bit, and the iron bars embedded in the sides are very rusted.
My question is whether there's a risk of the chimney collapsing in the basement, whether it can be renovated in some simple way, or whether it can be sealed to avoid risking the chimney, which is otherwise okay.
I don't have a good picture, so this one will have to do
