I have a ladder up to the attic and now I'm planning to install a permanent staircase instead. It will be steep, but that's how it will be. What I'm wondering about is how far/high it should be between the steps. Regular stairs have about 17-18 cm height difference between the steps. When I made a staircase for my loft shed, I used these measurements, and that staircase is steep and feels very strange to walk in, the steps are too close, so I should probably redo it at some point.
Back to my attic staircase, the floor-to-floor height is 2632 mm and the opening is 1178 mm with a width of 700 mm. I visited a Russian site where you can input your measurements, and I get a step distance of 260 mm (10 steps), which I think sounds a lot, but if you measure on a ladder, the distance between the steps is quite long. I gladly accept advice.

17-18 fits best with a staircase with the right slope... a so-called loft ladder probably fits somewhere around 20-23 I would guess... however, the loft ladder will become uncomfortable to descend...
Are there no possibilities to make a longer/better staircase?
No, the hole is there so it's about accepting the situation. Starting to redo the intermediate floor with everything that is in it including electricity, etc., no, not an option. I've thought about an attic hatch, we have one in the summer cottage, but no, it doesn't look nice and since the attic is furnished for overnight stays, I don't want to close it up but arrange a permanent staircase so visitors don't have to climb the ladder to visit the bathroom at night, but have a staircase even if it's steep.

I have also thought about that, I have never walked in such a staircase, and those who have think it feels strange not to be able to choose how to walk. Maybe I'll need to find such a staircase and try it because it does provide better space for lifting the foot.
