Hello,

does anyone have knowledge about attic stairs/ladders, i.e., where you have a hatch that you open and suddenly you have a ladder to climb up...

Anyway, I'm planning to install one of these in my house, which is partly a new build. I want to install it from the upper floor up to the "upper attic." Does anyone know what to do with the vapor barrier? Is it worth buying a more expensive type of ladder, or is this one from byggmax sufficient: http://www.byggmax.com/se-sv/Prod/PID-27490.aspx?

Installation? Put up 2 reinforcements between the ceiling joists (cc1200) and attach it to that?

Best regards,
Mattias

I have just installed an attic ladder because my old attic hatch was condemned by the chimney sweep. I bought one like this from K-rauta: http://www.byggera.se/media/pdf/royal_polar_vindstrappa.pdf. It is insulated and I think that's something to aim for. The insulation is foam plastic and the insulation value is 0.43 W/m^2. The foam plastic might function as a vapor barrier but I'm not certain about that, just a guess. It costs more than the Byggmax version (1695) but I think it will pay off. You only buy an attic ladder once (hopefully). Between my floor joists in the attic, it was 50 cm, the ladder's frame was 54 cm so I had to cut out with a saw and chisel, a bit of a hassle but otherwise the installation was super easy. The instructions say to use frame screws, but mine is secured with five-inch nails.
