Basement stairs with a wooden stringer not visibly fastened to the wall. Holes and markings are visible on the adjacent wall. Hi.
The stairs down to the basement have settled a bit, and I'm thinking of lifting them.
However, I can't see that the stringer is fastened to the wall.
Did they fasten the stringer first and then install the steps to hide the screws?
The house is from '63.

One of my stairs is only attached at the bottom and top
The other is custom-built into the wall and the center post, spiral staircase model
It seems there's a part of the stringer missing in your picture

Ah ok, has center Staircase with central pillar, partially removed masonite panel, showing exposed steps and supporting structure. pole with it.
They attached a cut-out masonite board to extend the tracks for the steps. The one I've partially torn off.

Then maybe it is the wall and the post that support the steps as in my old stairs

Hmm, removed all the hardboard that covered the stringers.
No fixings either to the walls or the post.
Has anyone ever built stairs that only rested on each respective floor?

Are the steps going into the wall

Oh yes, there are many different staircases that are only anchored at the top and bottom, just google it and you'll find countless different solutions.

Nix.
The steps are recessed into the stringers.
Can't see anything other than that it's resting on the plate and possibly secured to the upper floor. I'll dismantle a bit more and see if I find anything useful...

Then it's probably like my staircase, except mine isn't against a wall, the staircase is a unit that is attached to the upper floor and maybe like mine attached to the floor on the lower level (screwed under the floor up into the stringers so it's not visible)
