Attaching posts to concrete stairs?

I'm going to build a porch with a roof and railings on my existing concrete stairs up to the house. How should I attach the posts onto the landing of the concrete stairs in the most aesthetically pleasing way? I don't really like the usual post shoe brackets that are visible high up on the post. Additionally, the railing needs to be attached to the posts.

I should mention that I'm an enthusiastic amateur in the subject...

The most stylish I think is an M16 threaded rod that is drilled into the middle of the post and down into the concrete.
