Hello.

I want to build a railing for the stairs. I would like to mount the railing on the floor where the stairs go down, and therefore I do not have stringers to screw posts and spindles into. I also do not want to make a tall post that goes up to the ceiling. I have seen that Lundbergs (http://www.lundbergs.com) has a system where you screw the end post into the floor with a dowel screw and glue. Will this really hold when the children come running and throw themselves against the railing? Or is there another good solution that is more durable?

Regards,
Jocke

Can you link to the prescribed solution?

What is the material of the floor on which the post will stand?

I have a round pipe that is 15cm high where I have welded a plate at the bottom with a hole in it, which I have fastened to the floor with a sturdy French wood screw. On that pipe, I have fitted a thicker pipe that fits perfectly. The idea was to drill a hole through both and pop rivet, but it wasn't necessary for me as the railing is also secured to the wall.

The dowel screw combined with glue is an excellent solution. Even Styrman1's suggestion works well. Just pick one! ;-)

Thanks for the tips! Now the Christmas holiday is saved. :)
