I am going to build an extension with a gable roof against the gable of a house with a brick façade. The extension will have an open ceiling up to the ridge, so there will be a glulam beam instead of rafters. On the outer edge, the beam rests on a post, but how do I attach it to the house? I cannot have a post here due to a doorway.

One thing is clear: You cannot attach it to the facade brick if it would end up over an opening.
Consider some form of avväxling.

Exactly what I was thinking about. I thought maybe one could insert a steel beam (or laminate wood, but that builds much more) into the facade above the door opening and let it rest on two laminate wood posts on either side of the door opening. Could that work? Would it be necessary to place a post from the steel beam up to the ridge beam as well?

It probably works great!
