The simplest way is probably to lift a slab on each side and use ground screws or spikes? It will be sturdy enough unless the house is a saloon and all the cowboys want to tie their horses to the gate.

Or you can get one of these.... Then you don't need to build anything!

Retractable privacy screen installed between two buildings, used as a gate or barrier to prevent children or pets from passing.

Retractable privacy screen, works well as a gate/barrier to prevent children or dogs from getting past.... :)

Maybe not suitable for your purpose though.

Brilliant solution crazytok. Installed and ready in a few minutes. Or maybe TS wants to tinker on their own ..... (?)

Ground screws sound like a good idea. Then you don't have to drill or dig and cast. And it doesn't matter if there's a bit of a slope.

But ground screws are not something you install yourself, right?

Ground screws can be bought at Jula for a hundred each; whether you can screw them in yourself entirely depends on the ground conditions.

I installed 4 of them in our lawn for a climbing frame; we had about 20cm of soil and then mostly blasted rock. I bought a 30mm drill bit 900mm long and pre-drilled and broke stones with it, not fun, but I got them all down in the end, and they sit very stably.

I've only used it in "good" conditions like soil and clay. Just screwed a piece of beam on and started whisking. It holds really well when you're at the bottom.
