Hello,

I'm planning to install a new gypsum ceiling in the basement and am considering alternatives to screwing the battens into the existing concrete ceiling.

The reason I don't want to attach the battens (wood/metal) with screws is that there have already been two accidents when drilling into the ceiling. One was when I drilled through a cable conduit, and the other time the drill went through a sewer pipe. It wasn't fun... and I don't want to risk something similar happening again.

Is PL400/600 strong enough to hold up a gypsum ceiling? Are there other alternatives?

Any tips are welcome!

Can you attach them with joist hangers to the walls around the ceiling instead? I don't think you can solve this with glue at all actually, it's hard to see how it could hold up in the long run. Also dangerous even if you get it to stick since you never know when the glue might fail, so you can never trust it.

Rent, for example, a Hilti PS20 from Cramo and you should be able to locate the pipes in the concrete and drill all the holes, should take a maximum of one day to do:
