Hello,

After renovating the stairs and laying a new floor, we installed a baseboard to cover about 10 mm of movement space. Unfortunately, we failed to consider and nailed it straight through both the list and the parquet. The floor should, of course, be able to expand and contract, which becomes problematic with this solution. The result is that the floor pushes the list against the stairs, which in turn makes noise when walking nearby.

A staircase with wooden flooring and a skirting board showing nails; gaps evident causing potential noise issues due to floor expansion. A wooden molding between stairs and wall showing nails through both trim and hardwood floor, causing issues with expansion and creaking sounds. Baseboard corner meeting a wooden stair post on a hardwood floor, with nails visible through both the baseboard and floor, causing tension issues.

I will naturally need to pull up the nails again, but how should the small list be attached to avoid problems with tension and noise?

I should also ask how to deal with wall baseboards pressing so hard against the parquet that it creaks when walking? Should I simply remove the baseboards and reinstall them a few mm above the floor? Or is there another trick, like oil or similar?
