Hello!
I am going to replace a 70x165 beam that serves as horizontal support for a patio roof, see sketch. What I'm wondering is the best way to attach it to the wall on the left in the picture? The old beam was fastened with some kind of heavy threaded rod (M12), but based on how little resistance it offered when removed, it doesn't seem like it was a particularly robust idea... I initially thought about using a joist hanger, but they only seem to be available for 45mm?
I should also mention that the "brick wall" is only one stone deep and is placed outside a plastered wall. I haven't removed any stones yet to see if it's actually laid directly against the underlying plaster or if they removed it first, but based on how the rest of the house clearly took a "fastest possible way forward" approach, I guess that's the case.
There are joist hangers wider than 45mm, so one option is to buy one of those. Check for example here at Byggahus' own shop.
An option that can facilitate the attachment (whether you get a joist hanger or not) is if you place a piece of a regel flat against the wall and then attach your joist like a T against it. With a regel lying flat against the wall, it is easy to attach it to the brick wall so that you distribute the loads and avoid the risk of everything hanging on a single brick. The disadvantage is that it looks less attractive than if you only use a joist hanger.
Can't you set a rule from the floor that the horizontal rule can rest on?
Hm, a new rule could work, yes. Aside from the aesthetics which can probably be solved, does one need to think about how to prevent moisture from getting between the rule and the wall that's left and causing problems?

Aha! None of the hardware stores I have nearby had anything other than 45, but then that is an option again! Interesting suggestion to distribute the load as well. Since the wall is of somewhat unclear quality, it could be a way to secure it. Maybe I should remove a stone and see what it looks like underneath.
